Each year, the International Legal Education Abroad Conference (ILEAC) brings together key practitioners from across the United States and abroad to discuss common challenges and to develop best practices to some of the most pressing issues in the exciting and dynamic area of international legal education abroad.

2017 International Legal Education Abroad Conference: Making an Impact! The 2017 conference was hosted by the American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL) in Washington, DC and addressed the theme Making an Impact! Panels and discussions offered unique perspectives, innovative ideas, and critical assessments on creating, achieving, measuring, and ensuring success in international legal education abroad. Conference sessions focused on the impact made by and on JD students, law school international programs offices, other law school faculty and administrators, international partners, alumni, employers, and the global legal community.

For those faculty and administrators who wear multiple hats, in 2018 AUWCL will host the ILEAC together with the LL.M. Administrators’ Conference on Thursday, February 22 and Friday February 23, 2018. This event will take place at AUWCL’ s new campus in Washington, DC. More event details and request for conference proposals will be posted shortly.

ILEAC began with an inaugural event in 2011 at AUWCL as one of the first gatherings of International JD Dual Degree administrators. From that point, the conference has grown into an annual forum on a variety of topics for all legal educators and administrators involved in international legal education abroad. In 2017, participants over 30 US law schools, non-US law schools, private sector entities and international organizations came together to discuss how international legal education abroad can embrace the changing legal education landscape and provide meaningful global legal experiences for law students.
