Abstract

CONFERENCE DESCRIPTION:

Welcome to Chicago. We are excited to host you. ILASS is a new ASIL interest group created in April 2023. In our short existence, we have built a starter infrastructure that includes this workshop, a set of prizes that will roll out in 2025, an on-line speaker series that began in 2024, and activities associated with the ASIL annual meeting. Building an interdisciplinary community requires that we reach beyond ASIL membership, and that we work hard to bring in underrepresented social science disciplines. This workshop is one way we are reaching beyond. We want ILASS events to be inviting spaces where future collaborators meet, friendships are built, and young scholars find support and mentorship. You can help us by creating a welcoming and nurturing workshop and community. Introduce yourself to people you do not know. Engage the research being presented. Always be kind and constructive. Go out of your way to bring colleagues standing nearby into your conversation. Also, please bring your ideas and enthusiasm to ILASS leaders. Please keep in mind, however, that ILASS relies on the good will of its leaders and host institutions like Northwestern University’s Pritzker School of Law and Northwestern University’s Buffett Institute for Global Affairs.
